Classification of Plastic Cutlery

Plastic Container can be divided into the following types

It is often used as mineral water bottle, coke drink bottle, fruit juice bottle, etc. Because it can only heat 120 ℃, it is only suitable for cold and warm drinks. If it is filled with high-temperature liquid or heated, it will deform.

2. High density polyethylene (HDPE) is suitable for bottles of food and medicine, cleaning products and bath products, shopping bags and garbage cans.

3. Polyvinyl chloride (PVC), polymerized from vinyl chloride. At high temperature and in contact with grease, PVC plastics are easy to release phthalates and toxic vinyl chloride monomers that are not fully polymerized. The fresh-keeping film made of PVC has good transparency, is not easy to crack, strong adhesion and low price. It is the film that is firmly adhered to the box we see in supermarkets and hypermarkets. According to its characteristics, it is only suitable for cold storage of vegetables and fruits. It is not suitable for putting meat, cakes and other foods containing more fat, nor for microwave heating.

4. Low density polyethylene (LDPE) plastic film and fresh-keeping film have good water barrier performance, so paper milk boxes, beverage boxes and other packaging boxes use it as the inner film. Because the low density polyethylene film will be hot dissolved when the temperature exceeds 120 ℃, if the film is used to wrap the food for heating, the grease in the food will dissolve some components in the film. Therefore, the film should be removed before entering the microwave oven, at least the food should not contact the film directly. Low-density polyethylene itself has no degradability, and today’s “plastic restriction order” mainly restricts it.

5. Polypropylene (PP), which is polymerized from propylene, is also more transparent and harder than polyethylene. Most of the boxes used for packaging in restaurants are made of it. The plastic boxes made of it can be put into microwave oven for heating.

6. Polystyrene (PS), polymerized from styrene, is often used in bowls of instant noodles and fast food boxes. It is heat-resistant and cold-resistant, but too high temperature will release harmful substances, so do not put the bowl of instant noodles into the microwave oven for heating, and try not to use it to hold hot food, and also cannot contain strong acidic (if juice) and strong alkaline substances, otherwise styrene and auxiliary materials will be released.

7. Polycarbonate (PC), which is synthesized from bisphenol A and diphenyl carbonate, has excellent impact toughness and mechanical strength, and good transparency, so it is known as “transparent metal”. It is often used to make water bottles, cups, bottles, etc. In the process of making PC, the raw material bisphenol A should completely become the structural component of plastic and should not be released in use. However, it is often impossible to do so. A small part of bisphenol A will not be completely converted into plastic and will be released into food in case of heat. Bisphenol A is an endocrine disruptor, which is particularly harmful to developing fetuses and children, and may cause miscarriage, congenital mental retardation and mental retardation of infants. Some studies have also confirmed that BPA can interfere with and antagonize the secretion of thyroxine and testosterone, affect the sexual development of boys, hinder sperm formation, and may affect fertility. Therefore, special care should be taken in use, including polycarbonate bottles, so as not to harm the sexual development of infants.
